Salt Dough Ornaments and some other stuff, too.

1st... Here is what Pablo has been up to...
Brady was not happy about Pablo stealing his swippers. He didn't touch him., though.

2nd... Check out this real life, true story Wii bowling game Brady dominated...

That is right, my 3 year old slaughtered me. All but one frame is a spare or strike. I texted this to Caleb. Let me just say, he was one proud dad!!!

3rd... Today at Kroger, Brady said, "wait mom, we have to put some money in the red bucket." I think my lessons in giving are sinking in!

O.k. Now what this post is really about...

When I was a little bitty girl, my mom and I made salt dough ornaments. I don't remember it, but we still have those sweet reindeer ornaments floating around somewhere. They are more like antiques now, so I don't put them on the tree.

When I got a little older, I made some on my own. Then I used the recipe for a demonstration project in college and made one for everyone in my class. Caleb got one as well.: ) It is on our tree as we speak.

painted, but before adding the ribbon. Brady painted some.
I decided this would be a good year for Brady and I to make them. We made our batter, cut out our shapes, and waited. Then we decorated like crazy.

We made ornaments for various people, friends, Sunday school teachers, and family. It made for a fun, sweet day. He loved it! I loved it!

One of the finished results. It is really cute it person.
I meant to make a hand print one, but we got carried away with the cookie cutters and I forgot. Oh well.

Here is the recipe. It is really easy.

Salt Dough Ornaments
2 c plain flour
1 c salt
water as needed, I used a little less than a cup.

Mix ingredients, adding water slowly as needed. Roll out dough. Cut into desired shapes. Make hole for hanging before baking.
Bake 200 5-8 hours. Do not brown.

Decorate with paint and ribbon.

Wednesday Random Ramblings

  • Seasonal allergies are attacking our house. My head feels like it weighs 900 lbs. Brady woke up this morning saying his head and throat hurt. Marley, our outside dog, has yucky goo in her eyes. Even Ethan, our friend who is staying with us this week during the day, has a runny nose.

  •  I have been trying to find things to do inside today to help keep the allergies at bay. And every one is acting drugged and tired.
  • We made these cute hand print giraffes. They are gold because I didn't have yellow paint on hand. It kept them entertained for a few minutes.
This one has an extra leg. Oops!
  • I have been a SAHM for a month now and I am mostly loving it! I am still  getting used to it, but I feel like I am much more on top of things and more available to every one. (It has been a huge adjustment for me, more than I expected. I am not sure what I expected though.)  I am relaxed and  happy! That is good.
  • September is filling up fast. It is quickly becoming a very busy month, more on that stuff as it happens. I am really excited about most of it.
  • Caleb just finished reading the first Hunger Games book. I read the series a while ago, loved them, and have suggested them to every one, including Caleb.  Of course, he wouldn't listen to me. After hearing some others talk about it, he decided to read it. It is fun to experience it through him. We were both thoroughly disappointed in the sneak peak for the movie. I am clinging to the fact that they are still filming and that is the excuse for a pitiful sneak peak. I am actually really scared about how the movies will be. In my opinion, they could be really awesome or really weird and overdone. We shall see.
